Textbook Based Classes
Our textbook-based Adult Classes are working with a tried-and-true methodology for consistent progressions: Clearly structured, learner friendly presentation and structure; interconnected vocabulary, grammar, and phrases for sustainable language learning; mediated strategies that are key to independent language production; contemporary Bildsprache that students can relate to with modern, authentic texts; engaging and diverse activities for meaningful interaction; integrated culture throughout.
Please note that class offerings are subject to change, depending on enrollment. For most classes the minimum enrollment is 6 students, the maximum is 12 students.
A0 – A1: Adult Beginner German
This course is designed for beginners with no prior German knowledge. The primary focus of the class is to develop communication skills and to introduce commonly used vocabulary. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are practiced in every lesson, and grammar is addressed and explained. Information about German culture, geography, and traditions are incorporated to enrich the process of language acquisition. Students will work with a textbook as well as other class material.
In spring 2023, we will offer a class for continuing Beginner students from fall, as well as a class for new students.
A1 – A2: Adult Intermediate German
This class is for students who have taken some German classes in the past or have been exposed to German before. Students can understand the basics and are comfortable holding simple conversations. The class will work with a textbook as well as with other sources to improve grammar, vocabulary, and conversation skills.
A2 – B1: Adult Advanced German
This class is for advanced level students who have been exposed to German and can understand and communicate easily. These students are ready to add more vocabulary and go deeper with grammar topics. The class will work with a textbook as well as other class material.

Special Interest Classes
Our Special Interest classes are theme-based, for advanced level German learners.
B2+ Deutsch Aktuell
Der Schwerpunkt dieser Klasse liegt bei “Themen des Tages”, Artikel über aktuelle Themen und Ereignisse in Deutschland. Diese Artikel sind manchmal direkt aus dem Internet, manchmal verkürzt und vereinfacht. Der kulturelle und gesellschaftliche Kontext wird erläutert und diskutiert. Die Teilnehmer werden aufgefordert zu lesen, fragen, antworten und diskutieren. Neue Wörter und Ausdrücke werden erklärt und dann geübt. Manchmal ergibt sich eine Erklärung der Grammatik anhand der gegebenen Beispiele, was gelegentlich zu einer ausführlichen Übung führt. Zusätzlich gibt es eine Lektüre, z.B. eine Biografie oder eine Kurzgeschichte, die zum Sprechen und Gedankenaustausch anregt.
